Academics
Pine Cobble School has four academic divisions – Early Childhood (age 2.9 – Kindergarten), Lower School (grades 1-5) and Upper School (grades 6-8). This approach allows students to become leaders in their division every three years.
Regardless of students’ grade level or division, you’ll find common elements:
- We nurture curiosity and foster love of learning in a scaffolded, age-appropriate way.
- We engage students in their own learning, encouraging them to ask good questions, then seek reliable answers themselves.
- We don’t believe in cramming for tests; rather, we encourage students to acquire, thoughtfully, the skills they need to become independent, competent, and courageous adults.
- We believe that a healthy amount of spontaneous laughter enhances learning, rather than detracts from it.
- We integrate ethics, character education, and social-emotional learning into all aspects of our curricula, encouraging students to think not only about what they’re learning, but also why it matters.
- We strive to be an inclusive community, one that embraces diversity, amplifies historically marginalized voices, confronts bias, and fosters a positive sense of self for all.
- We see mistakes as the best learning opportunities, and we’re here to guide students through their most difficult moments. We work to turn the hardest experience into new levels of self-knowledge, and responsible participation in their community and the world.
