Job Summary
Through intentional collaboration, effective communication, a sense of equity in education, and an adherence to the Pine Cobble School’s Community Pillars, the Sixth Grade Teacher will create engaging learning experiences for their students that cultivates a passion for learning while establishing both a sense of self-worth and communal belonging. Additionally, as part of the Intermediate School Division, the Sixth Grade Teacher will actively partner with their direct colleagues, the Fourth and Fifth Grade Teachers, to implement the school’s ELA curriculum, Wit & Wisdom, and Math curriculum, Illustrative Mathematics, while also developing a distinct identity for the Division.
The Sixth Grade Teacher will be someone with outstanding tactful written and oral communication skills that excels at collaboration by being amicable, flexible, and considerate of shared goals while both modeling and maintaining professionalism between all interpersonal relationships as they relate to the role.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Prepares and instructs lessons for students in core subjects while actively implementing Wit & Wisdom and Illustrative Mathematics with fidelity
- Establishes and maintains fair and just standards for student behavior needed to achieve an effective and safe learning environment while actively building both professional and academic relationships with students and their families
- Produces an annual grade level project that culminates in a public display and / or family presentation
- Uses effective teaching and assessment strategies, materials, and educational experiences to support instruction within curricular guidelines towards desired developmental outcomes throughout the academic year
- Facilitates creative academic assessments and provides both adequate and appropriate feedback to students and their parents / guardians
- Establishes and maintains professional, informative, and meaningful two-way communication with parents via weekly class newsletters, semesterly Term Reports, as needed emails and phone calls, and semesterly Family Conferences
- Prioritizes equity and inclusion in instructional practices through incorporating diverse cultures, voices, and perspectives across disciplines and curriculums as well as in interactions with students, families, and colleagues
- Actively implements technology as a learning tool towards developing both technological and digital literacy
- Effectively partners with both the Reading Specialist and Math Specialist to provide differentiated instruction to students in need of accommodations and / or modifications
- Collaborates with Dean of Academics, the Reading Specialist, and Math Specialist to create opportunities for academic enrichment for eligible students
- Co-organizes projects, semesterly field trips, and family events
- Monitors students during snack, lunch, and recess
- Additional duties as assigned
Qualification Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree
- 2+ years of teaching experience preferred
